The 4th Annual Shawna Jean Larassa Memorial Scholarship Fund Motorcycle Ride will take motorcyclists through Marlborough and surrounding towns this weekend to raise money for scholarships for local students.

The ride, organized by George Larassa, starts and ends at the Marlborough Moose Lodge on Fitchburg Street Saturday. The ride is named for Larassa's daughter, who died in a car accident in 2009.

Each year, Larassa has raised money through the ride to pay for scholarships to attend college. Shawna Larassa attended college for one year before she died.

Registration for the ride begins at the Moose Lodge at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and the ride begins at 11 a.m. A party following the ride begins at the Lodge at 1 p.m. and will feature live music, raffles, vendors and food catered by the Westender. Attendees can also participate in a butterfly release. George Larassa said his daughter loved butterflies.

George Larassa said he awards some scholarships each year to students from Bartlett High School, where Shawna went to school, but said students from other schools can apply as well. Students who want to apply must attend the ride or party afterward and fill out an application on site.

Larassa said the ride and the party afterward are very family friendly, and said he is trying to get as many riders and scholarship applicants out as possible.
